What are some fresh new artists in Rock & Pop these days?

I am not into singers that sound like divas or anything Kelly Clarkson-ish. I'm in my early 20s and I would go for anything interesting, even techno or indie rock. Just drop in the name of the artist that you would recommend for your friends, thanks!
