How to read a crochet pattern?

I have a crochet pattern I'm trying to read, and I can't understand it that well. Its probably a lot easier than the other patterns people try to read, but I've never tried patterns before. It says I need to '6 sc in Adjustable Ring, sc inc every st - 12, sc inc every 2nd - 18' and it goes on like that. Can anyone help me understand what that means?
