Is the structure of this sentence correct?

As a teacher of English, I can tell you that the answer depends on precisely what you are trying to say. The way you have structured this sentence, you are saying that "compion and friendship" should be grouped together as a special unit, that "betrayal and redemption" should be grouped together as another such unit, and that "political change and (political) influence" are a third such unit. If this is not what you mean, you need to change the structure. If you only want to list all these items as roughly equal topics in the book, eliminate all the "and's" but the last one, and put commas in their places, also putting a comma in front of the last "and."
