I read in the Encyclopedia Brit. that later on during the development of the spread of Islam.....?

I've never heard that, but I do know the Hindus have a holy book, the Rig Vega I think. Zoroastrians might very well have one themselves, which would make this more plausible. But I've never heard of either being added to "people of the book" in Islam.
